IEA/NEA Talking Points for Higher Education Legislation

Higher Education Funding

·       The Illinois Education Association supports increased funding for higher education.  Tell your legislator that the Governor's proposal to reduce higher education funding by $102 million is bad for Illinois.  The reductions are forcing some of the best professors to leave for better jobs, and the reductions are driving up costs for students.  Illinois needs affordable and outstanding higher education for all students, and that can't happen if the state doesn't pay its fair share.

Line-Item Appropriation

·       The Illinois Education Association remains neutral on the issue of line-item appropriations.  However, legislative controls must be put in place to safeguard against possible administrative abuse that adversely impacts faculty and staff at higher education institutions.
